Farm to Needle - Fiber Processing
$37.00 Sold Out
Scheduled for July 22, 2017, Workshop #2 in the Farm-to-Needle workshop series is focused on Fiber Processing. The workshop will start at 10am and will run until about 1pm.
The alpacas spent all year growing it and on June 5th we spent the entire day to harvest it - now what?!
Using a few of the herd's freshly shorn fleeces, we'll show you how we transform it from raw locks! This workshop will be one for the senses with discussion and hands-on fiber play covering the basics in fleece skirting, picking, washing (in our vintage Maytag wringer washer) and drum carding. The workshop will culminate with yarn spinning, as members of the Weavers and Spinners of Walla Walla (WSWW) provide beginner-level instruction on the drop spindle! Participants will depart with various fiber rovings to continue their spindling at home! Workshop participants will also be invited to attend the monthly Saturday Spin-ins with the WSWW during the summer to continue their drop spindling practice. Already have a drop spindle and want to come learn to use it? Select the 'without drop spindle' enrollment option!
