Farm Grown Knitwear

There's a particular moment every summer that feels a little magical.

The alpacas have already had their annual haircuts.

Their fleece is long gone, off at the mill being transformed by skilled American hands into yarn and knitwear.

The dye garden is bursting with color. And suddenly, after months of waiting, I realize...

We're getting close.

Not close in the fast-fashion sense of the word.

Close in the way nature works.

Because our yarn & knitwear isn't manufactured on a production schedule.

It's grown.

Nearly two years ago, sunshine became grass.

That grass became fleece on the backs of our alpacas.

This spring, each fleece was carefully sorted before making its way to a small mill, where it’s transformed into yarn. From there, a local knitting partner will soon turn that yarn into hats, mittens, headbands, and neck warmers.

While all of that’s happening, another story is quietly unfolding here on the farm.

Outside the old dairy buildings, the dye garden has been working it’s own magic

Coreopsis. Weld. Chamomile. Madder. Marigold. Cosmos.

Each one growing slowly under the same sun as the alpacas, nourished with composted alpaca manure and watered through another eastern Washington summer.

Soon those flowers and roots will become the final chapter.

Every garment will pass through my dye pots, taking on colors that simply can't be purchased off a shelf because they began as living plants only a few yards from where the alpacas graze.

It's difficult to explain how satisfying that feels.

In today's world, we're used to clicking a button and having something arrive in a couple of days.

Most of us never see where it came from.

We never meet the people who made it.

We never witness the seasons required to create it.

Here on the farm, I get to watch every chapter unfold.

I know which alpaca grew the fiber.

I know which flowers produced the color.

I know every pair of hands that helped transform one into the other.

That connection is what makes this collection different.

And now...

The waiting is almost over.

The dye pots will soon be steaming.

The final colors will begin to emerge.

And before long, I'll be sharing this year's collection with you.

I truly believe this is our best Collection yet.
