All about Scout

If you’ve ever visited us for a meet & greet or other tour, chances are you’ve already met Scout.

She’s the tan-and-white alpaca with the gentle eyes and the star power — the one who seems to know the camera loves her. But what really sets Scout apart from the rest of our herd isn’t her striking good looks… it’s her love of people.

Alpacas are naturally curious animals, and ours are no exception. They’ll trot over to greet you, happily munch a handful of kibble, and pose for the occasional photo — as long as you keep your hands to yourself.

You see, most alpacas (ours included!) are what we lovingly call “look-but-don’t-touch” creatures. They prefer a comfortable bubble of personal space, and they’ll let you know when you’re getting too close to the velvet-soft fluff.

But Scout? Scout never got that memo.

For reasons only she understands, she’s always been the exception. After nibbling a snack from your hand, she’ll often take a step closer… and then another… until suddenly she’s right up against your side, inviting all the neck rubs and back scratches your heart can offer. She’ll stretch that long neck out, lean in with total trust, and sometimes — if you’re one of the lucky ones — she’ll basically wrap herself around ya.

It’s the kind of moment that turns every visitor into a puddle of pure joy.

Because of her sweet disposition and her knack for connecting with people, Scout has earned the title ‘PR alpaca’ since she’s starred in dozens of photos, stories, and reels from our guests. I’ve got a growing album of Scout’s Fan Club and I love it.

We’ve always said that our alpacas don’t need to “perform” for anyone. They live simple, peaceful lives here, and we’re just grateful they allow us to share a small part of their world with visitors.

Scout, however, insists on doing things her own way. She chooses interaction. She chooses connection. She chooses you — especially if you’re holding kibble.

Her friendliness brings a little magic to the farm experience. She helps nervous guests relax. She sparks wonder in kids meeting an alpaca up close for the first time. She creates memories that we know last a lifetime.

So if you’re planning a farm visit on your next trip to Walla Walla and are hoping for that backstage pass into alpaca affection, Scout just might be the one to grant it!

While we can’t ever guarantee cuddles — consent matters, even in the alpaca world — more often than not, Scout is willing to put her superstar status to work.

After all, every farm needs an ambassador. We’re just lucky ours happens to be so darn photogenic.

But Scout’s charm doesn’t stop at meet & greets.

Her gorgeous fleece — that soft, warm, tan-and-white coat — has now become one of our most special products.

We created an ultra-soft, extra-wide headband featuring Scout’s light-colored fiber as the perfect contrast to the rich black fiber from her herd mate and pal, Bella.

It’s a wearable keepsake of the gentle alpaca who stole your heart at the fence line — and a cozy reminder of the sweetest snuggler on the farm.
